A Mongolian parliamentarian, O.Amgalanbaatar, has proposed amendments to the Law on Herders to provide newly formed herding families with at least 50 head of livestock. The initiative addresses concerns about declining herding populations and difficulties for young people in rural areas to find partners and continue the tradition. The MP highlighted that herders are essential to maintaining territorial control, similar to border guards, but have faced hardship due to government policies over the last three decades. The goal is to increase income for young herders, encouraging them to remain in their communities and sustain their livelihoods. The politician also announced the fifth annual event aimed at connecting single young people in the remote Dorgon Lake region, with previous events resulting in over 300 marriages. The event is open to participants from the capital city, Ulaanbaatar, and details can be found on the Gov-Altai province website.
