A 7.5-kilometer section of the D49 highway opened to traffic on Wednesday, connecting Martinice and Fryšták in the Czech Republic. This new segment links the Kroměříž and Zlín regions, improving transportation infrastructure in the area. It follows the opening of a 9.8-kilometer section of the D49 between Hulín and Martinice in December 2021. The construction of the D49 highway has faced repeated delays due to objections and legal challenges from environmental activists. The completed sections represent progress on a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity. Authorities anticipate the highway will alleviate traffic congestion and support regional economic development. Further phases of the D49 project are still under development.
