A new significant flood has struck central Nepal, just six weeks after a devastating flood at the border with China resulted in over 1,400 deaths and 5,000 missing persons. Five individuals are currently reported missing following the latest event, which occurred after a dam broke. Authorities issued an alert this morning after the dam’s collapse triggered the rapid surge of water. This new flooding presents further challenges for Nepal as it continues to recover from the previous catastrophic event. The situation remains fluid as search and rescue operations are underway in central Nepal. AFP reports that emergency services are actively responding to the crisis. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
