A new exhibit opened on June 14th in Granada, Spain, at the Alhambra palace complex. Initiated by the Dr. Leila Mezian Foundation, the exhibit focuses on the contributions of the Almoravid and Almohad dynasties to the history of Al-Andalus, the Arabic name for the Iberian Peninsula during Muslim rule. The display is located within an 11th-century cloister and aims to shed light on the Amazigh (Berber) influence during this period. André Azoulay stated the exhibit gives the Alhambra a “new vocation,” suggesting a broadened historical interpretation. The project seeks to acknowledge a previously underrepresented aspect of the Alhambra’s rich cultural past. The exhibit is intended to promote a deeper understanding of the complex historical connections between North Africa and Spain. Médias24, a Moroccan economic news source, first reported the opening.
