The European Central Bank has unveiled potential designs for the next generation of euro banknotes, inviting public input on the final selection. Two themes are under consideration: depictions of prominent Europeans and illustrations of native birds and rivers. Ten designs have been created, featuring figures like Maria Callas, Leonardo da Vinci, and Marie Curie on the “cultural” notes, with related imagery on the reverse. The “nature” themed notes showcase birds such as the kingfisher and bee-eater, alongside depictions of European institutions on the back. Dutch studio Joost Grootens created the first three designs. A 500 euro note will not be reintroduced. The public can participate in the design selection process online, influencing the look of future euro currency.
