A natural disaster struck the Nepal-Tibet border region, triggering extensive rescue efforts as the full extent of the damage remains unclear. Both Nepal and China are reporting rising numbers of deaths and missing persons, with Nepal’s toll currently at 157 and China reporting three deaths. The Nepalese army is deploying troops and helicopters for rescue and aid distribution, while the Chinese military is using drones to assess damage and clear roads. International aid is arriving, with India sending supplies and the Red Cross providing medical assistance. The disaster, caused by a river overflowing its banks with devastating force, swept away infrastructure and a busy border crossing at Rasuwagadi. Hundreds of tourists from 28 countries are among the 579 people reported missing in Nepal, alongside numerous security personnel. Authorities fear the death toll will significantly increase as rescue operations continue through the night.
