Two men survived nine days trapped in a tunnel near the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station in Nepal, following the country’s most severe flooding in decades. Kabir Maharjan was found delirious and barely conscious in muddy water, having lost track of time in complete darkness. He and another man were rescued after a complex operation following the disaster near Nuwakot and Kathmandu. Upon regaining consciousness in a hospital, Maharjan initially failed to recognize his wife, inquiring why she hadn’t provided him with a bed earlier, illustrating the disorientation caused by the traumatic ordeal. The rescue is being hailed as a miracle, given the prolonged period the men were trapped and the challenging conditions within the damaged tunnel. The flooding caused significant wreckage and presented immense challenges for the rescue teams.
