A crucial road project connecting the remote Mugu district of Nepal to the Chinese border remains largely unfinished after two decades. Only 18 kilometers of the planned 68-kilometer Gamgadhi-Nakche Nangla road are currently usable. This lack of infrastructure forces residents of Mugum Karmarong to rely on expensive mule transport and arduous multi-day treks to obtain essential supplies. The stalled project significantly hinders access to basic necessities and economic opportunities for the isolated community. Locals face considerable hardship due to the ongoing delays and limited transportation options. The incomplete road impacts the region’s development and connectivity. Authorities have not provided a clear timeline for completion.
