Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana, has strongly condemned the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) choice of Kojo Fosu Boadu, known as Kojo Bamba, as First Vice Chairman. Gbande labeled the election result as “backward politics,” arguing it signifies a worrying embrace of violence. He stated that elevating a former leader of a pro-NPP vigilante group to a high-ranking position sends the wrong message, particularly as Ghana aims to distance itself from such tendencies. Gbande expressed concern that this decision projects a mindset of violence, something he believes Ghana has surpassed. He dismissed suggestions that the NPP’s new leadership might resort to intimidation or violence in upcoming elections, while reaffirming his disapproval of the appointment. The comments were made during an appearance on JoyNews’ Joy AM program.
