National park authorities in the Czech Republic are facing increased challenges due to tourists following inaccurate directions from satellite navigation systems and online applications. These technologies are guiding visitors into restricted zones within parks like Krkonoše, Šumava, and České Švýcarsko, areas designated as off-limits to protect sensitive ecosystems. Park officials report both drivers and hikers are being led to prohibited areas, necessitating increased monitoring and intervention. In response, Krkonoše National Park has begun supplementing road signs with warnings advising drivers not to rely solely on navigation apps. The issue highlights a growing conflict between technological convenience and the preservation of natural environments. Authorities are concerned about the potential for increased damage to fragile habitats and disruption of wildlife. Further measures to address this problem are being considered.
