New guidelines from Peru’s Ministry of Education (Minedu) regarding the Liceo Naval Guise allow for the appointment of a director without a teaching background or prior experience managing educational institutions. The reorganization rules require eight years of management experience, but do not specify whether this experience must be in the public or private sector. Critically, the guidelines also fail to consider the financial contributions made by families through the Marina foundation. Consequently, calls are mounting for oversight by the Peruvian Congress, the Comptroller General, and the Office of the Ombudsman to monitor the selection process. Concerns center on the potential impact of these changes on the quality of education at Liceo Naval Guise in Lima. The article originally appeared in Lima Gris.
