A complaint filed with the Republic’s Comptroller General alleges improper use of the state vehicle assigned to National Defender Verónica Encina. The denunciation, reviewed by Fast Check, analyzes monthly vehicle logs from May 2025 to July 2026, identifying 74 trips to destinations unrelated to official duties. It further points to 13 discrepancies in mileage and fuel consumption records. The complaint also alleges five instances of the Chief of Staff and Communications Advisor being transported between their homes and the office without Encina’s presence. The National Defender’s Office has dismissed the allegations, labeling the anonymous complaint and its contents as entirely false. The Comptroller General’s office has yet to comment on the ongoing investigation.
