The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) in Uganda is focusing on drought-resistant cassava varieties to bolster food security in the Karamoja region. Karamoja frequently experiences prolonged dry spells and increasing climate variability, threatening local communities. NARO has established a 200-acre cassava multiplication and demonstration facility at Nabuin Zonal Agricultural Research and Development to address these challenges. This initiative is being implemented through the Uganda Climate-Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP). The project aims to help communities in Karamoja cope with the impacts of climate change by providing access to resilient crops. This effort represents a significant step towards improving food security in a drought-prone area of Uganda.
