Archaeologists excavating a royal tomb dating back to China’s Warring States period have discovered bundles of grains wrapped in leaves and tied with plant fibers, estimated to be around 2,200 years old. Researchers believe these packages served as burial offerings. However, their striking resemblance to *zongzi*, a traditional Chinese food, has piqued particular interest. *Zongzi* is linked to an ancient legend surrounding the Chinese poet Qu Yuan. The discovery suggests a potential ritual connection between the royal tomb’s inhabitants and this enduring cultural story. This finding offers new insights into ancient Chinese burial practices and the cultural significance of food in relation to mythology. Further research is planned to fully understand the context of these unique offerings.
