An Mpox epidemic has been officially declared in Cameroon’s Southern Region, effective July 1st, 2026, with 11 confirmed cases. The outbreak is concentrated in the health districts of Kribi, Niété, and Ebolowa. Authorities have identified 79 direct contacts and are monitoring 242 indirect contacts. Symptoms of Mpox include skin lesions, fever, headaches, and muscle pain. Medical care for Mpox is being offered free of charge at all treatment centers, and authorities are emphasizing vigilance while calling for calm.
