The Mozambican government concluded a working visit to South Africa following recent violence and anti-immigrant sentiment targeting its citizens. Led by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the delegation met with South African authorities, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and community leaders to secure assistance for affected Mozambicans. South Africa committed to providing humanitarian aid and supporting the voluntary repatriation of Mozambican citizens. Both countries agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on migration issues, including a planned meeting between relevant ministers. South African officials clarified no official ultimatum was issued to foreign residents and reiterated their commitment to safety despite ongoing immigration controls. The IOM offered support for vulnerable cases, particularly women and children. Mozambique is covering the costs of repatriating victims, with one body already returned and procedures underway for the remaining five.
