Mozambique’s Fund for Energy (FUNAE) and the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) have signed a $50 million agreement to expedite the development of mini-grids across the country. The funding will be instrumental in expanding access to electricity in rural areas currently lacking power infrastructure. This initiative aims to boost economic activity and improve living conditions for communities outside of Mozambique’s main power grid. The agreement focuses on accelerating the implementation of existing mini-grid projects and planning for future expansions. Enabel will provide technical and financial support to FUNAE throughout the project’s duration. This partnership underscores a commitment to sustainable energy solutions and universal access to electricity in Mozambique. The project is expected to significantly impact energy access rates in targeted regions.
