Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo challenged the newly appointed leadership of the Higher Institute for Strategic Studies (AAEE) to elevate the institution into a leading center for strategic thought and knowledge production. During the inauguration of António Njanje Taimo Supeia as rector and Nelson Valente Rego as vice-rector, Chapo emphasized the AAEE’s crucial role in training high-level personnel in intelligence, defense, security, and strategic governance. He cited escalating national security threats – including terrorism in Cabo Delgado, transnational crime, cybercrime, and resource exploitation – as necessitating robust research and strategic analysis. The President advocated for increased research focused on Mozambique’s specific challenges, informing effective public policy. Chapo stressed that national security is no longer solely military, requiring qualified professionals capable of anticipating risks and developing sustainable solutions. He further underscored the AAEE’s importance in safeguarding Mozambique’s sovereignty and strategic interests, urging efficient and transparent management from the new leadership.
