Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo marked the nation’s 51st Independence Day by urging a focus on achieving economic independence to complement existing political freedom. He honored those who fought for national liberation and currently defend the country against terrorism in Cabo Delgado province. Chapo emphasized that political independence alone is insufficient for sustainable development, advocating for increased production, productivity, and wealth creation. He framed this new phase as a “second independence” driven by work, discipline, and economic nationalism. The President stressed the importance of transforming Mozambique’s resources into tangible benefits for citizens through industrialization and job creation. Chapo also called for relentless efforts to combat corruption, misuse of public funds, and a lack of collective responsibility, citing these as obstacles to national progress.
