Following disputed elections in late 2024, political opposition in Mozambique continues to face increasing repression. In May, two activists from the Anamola party, led by former presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane, were murdered at their homes. Authorities have dismissed the killings as isolated incidents. This development is part of an ongoing investigation, “Mozambique Exposed,” coordinated by Forbidden Stories, with contributions from RFI. The investigation suggests a pattern of state-sponsored violence against political opponents, potentially stemming from the ruling party’s long-held power since independence. The incidents raise concerns about the safety of activists and the state of political freedom in the country. This report marks the fourth installment in the “Mozambique Exposed” series, indicating a sustained effort to uncover the extent of the issue.
