Mozambique is expanding its partnership with the Merck Foundation to train 100 specialist doctors, building on an existing program that has already awarded 34 scholarships. First Lady Gueta Chapo announced the initiative at the Luminary Africa-Asia Conference 2026, highlighting Mozambique’s ongoing need for specialized medical professionals. The program aims to strengthen the national healthcare system and improve access to differentiated care for the population. Beyond medical training, the partnership also focuses on educating vulnerable girls and combating the stigma surrounding infertility. Chapo emphasized that investing in qualified healthcare professionals is crucial for the country’s present and future well-being, ensuring quality and equitable healthcare access. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of addressing current and future challenges.
