Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi inaugurated the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Fisheries Monitoring Center in Maputo on Thursday. The center aims to enhance regional cooperation in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. It will serve as a crucial hub for data collection, analysis, and information sharing amongst SADC member states. This initiative is expected to strengthen fisheries management and protect marine resources in the region. The center will facilitate coordinated surveillance and enforcement efforts to deter illegal activities. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure the sustainable use of fisheries and benefit coastal communities dependent on these resources. The launch underscores Mozambique’s commitment to regional security and environmental protection.
