Mozambican disability organizations are urging greater inclusion of people with disabilities in emergency preparedness and response efforts. The Forum of Mozambican Associations of People with Disabilities (FAMOD) expressed concern that disabled individuals are frequently overlooked during crises, hindering their access to vital assistance. They highlighted a lack of accessible information, transportation, and evacuation procedures tailored to diverse disabilities. FAMOD is advocating for the integration of disability considerations into national disaster risk reduction strategies. The organizations emphasize the need for training first responders to effectively assist people with disabilities during emergencies. They are calling on the government to ensure that emergency plans specifically address the unique needs of this vulnerable population, promoting equal access to safety and support. This appeal follows observations of exclusion during recent natural disasters in Mozambique.
