The Mozambican government has allocated 177 million meticais (approximately $2.7 million USD) to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Tete province. This investment, announced on June 18th, aims to unlock the potential of local businesses and stimulate economic growth within the region. The funds will be distributed as loans, providing crucial capital for entrepreneurs to expand their operations and create jobs. Priority will be given to businesses in sectors deemed strategic for Tete’s development, including agriculture, commerce, and services. Authorities anticipate the initiative will improve access to finance, a significant challenge for SMEs in Mozambique. The program is expected to benefit over 2,000 entrepreneurs and contribute to increased income generation and poverty reduction in Tete. This investment forms part of a broader government strategy to promote inclusive economic development across the country.
