Twenty-nine individuals have been arrested in Mozambique’s Tete province in the first half of the year for drug trafficking and consumption. Authorities report a growing impact of illicit substances, particularly among adolescents and young people. A national report indicates a 38 percent increase in individuals seeking mental health services due to drug-related issues, totaling over 32,000 cases nationwide. In Tete province alone, approximately 30 patients have been admitted to healthcare facilities with mental health disturbances linked to psychoactive substance use. Officials are particularly concerned by the increasing involvement of teenagers in both drug use and trafficking, emphasizing the need for enhanced prevention and awareness programs. The government is calling for greater collaboration between families, schools, communities, and state institutions to combat drug use and mitigate its public health and social consequences.
