Mozambican President Daniel Chapo expressed condolences to the MPLA party following the death of its Secretary for Foreign Relations, Manuel Augusto. Chapo described Augusto’s passing as an “irreparable loss” for both FRELIMO and the people of Mozambique, emphasizing the strong historical ties between the two nations. The President delivered his message of solidarity during a visit to MPLA headquarters in Luanda, coinciding with his attendance at the 2026 Global Tourism Investment Forum summit. Chapo highlighted Augusto’s crucial role in strengthening relations between FRELIMO and MPLA, both pivotal in their respective countries’ liberation struggles. He noted the profound shock felt in Mozambique upon hearing of Augusto’s death, recognizing him as a key figure in Angolan diplomacy. The leaders reaffirmed the enduring cooperation between Mozambique and Angola, forged since their independence in 1975, spanning political, economic, and regional integration efforts.
