Morocco is establishing a national platform for certificates of origin to demonstrate the renewable energy component of its industrial electricity consumption. Fifteen companies have submitted bids to develop this platform, which aims to help Moroccan industries prove their green credentials. This initiative is a direct response to increasing European carbon regulations and the need to maintain access to EU markets. Sectors particularly reliant on demonstrating low carbon footprints – including cement, fertilizers, aluminum, and steel – will benefit from this system. The platform will provide verifiable proof of renewable energy usage, crucial for compliance with EU import standards. This move positions Morocco as proactive in addressing climate challenges and safeguarding its export economy. The project is spearheaded by the country’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.
