Morocco’s Ambassador to the UN, Omar Hilal, highlighted the importance of countering hate speech on the international stage. He spoke during the commemoration of the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, established in 2021 following a Moroccan-led resolution. Hilal emphasized that hate speech is not simply offensive rhetoric, but a dangerous phenomenon with real-world consequences. He asserted that coexistence is a “living value” within Moroccan society. The ambassador also noted a correlation between ignorance and the propagation of hateful ideologies. The resolution, adopted by the UN General Assembly, received broad support from member states, signifying growing global recognition of the issue. Morocco continues to advocate for international cooperation in addressing this challenge.
