A Moroccan court of appeal in Marrakech has overturned bribery convictions against MP Ibrahim Ben Didi, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party. The appellate court annulled the criminal aspect of the charges relating to bribery and accepting benefits in a contract. Ben Didi was initially sentenced to three years in prison; however, this has been reduced to a two-year suspended sentence. The ruling effectively clears Ben Didi of the core bribery allegations. This decision follows an appeal against a previous, more severe judgement. The case revolved around accusations of corruption related to a contract, but the appeals court found insufficient evidence to uphold the initial convictions. This outcome represents a significant shift in the legal proceedings against the parliamentarian.
