Three historians—Nadia Birriel, Florencia Turielli, and Tania Rodríguez—have founded Indómitas, a cooperative dedicated to unearthing the forgotten stories of women who impacted Montevideo. The cooperative organizes guided walks throughout the city, blending archival research with on-site exploration of neighborhoods. Their work focuses on recovering histories of women often overlooked in traditional narratives. Through these walks, they aim to connect the public with the legacies of these individuals and their contributions to Montevideo’s cultural fabric. The project weaves together historical documents, the physical spaces of the city, and collective memory. Indómitas’ next walking tour will focus on the Cerro neighborhood, continuing their mission to illuminate the lives of noteworthy women.
