Mongolia’s foreign trade turnover reached $22.7 billion in the first eight months of 2026, according to the General Customs Administration. Exports totaled $14.4 billion, while imports amounted to $8.4 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $6 billion. Compared to the same period last year, exports increased by 57.2 percent, reaching $14.4 billion, and imports rose by 12.0 percent to $8.4 billion. Total trade turnover increased by 36.8 percent, reaching $22.8 billion. The increase in exports was primarily driven by growth in key mining products; specifically, coal exports reached 74.4 million tons, a 50.8 percent increase year-on-year, and copper concentrate exports reached 1.77 million tons, a 21.6 percent increase. These substantial increases in key export commodities significantly contributed to the overall export growth experienced by Mongolia during the first eight months of 2026.
