Mongolia’s Prime Minister met with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification’s Executive Secretary, Yasmin Fouad, to discuss the progress of the COP17 conference currently underway in Mongolia. Mongolia will host the conference and leverage the “International Year of Pastoralists and Rangeland Stewardship” in 2026 to promote policy leadership and attract investment in pastoral and rangeland issues. During the meeting, it was reported that $1.29 billion in investment was secured through over 60 projects across 23 countries to address land restoration, rangeland management, and drought. A key outcome of the discussions was an agreement to jointly implement the “Pastoralist of Sunny Mongolia” program, aligning it with COP17’s overarching theme. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the UN’s support and highlighted Mongolia’s commitment to a successful and high-level COP17 conference, which the international community recognizes as a significant event.
