The Mongolian government has approved a plan to rehabilitate 54,000 hectares of land damaged by mining, infrastructure projects, and illegal resource extraction. The initiative follows a directive issued in June by the Prime Minister to address environmental degradation and safety concerns linked to mining activities. A joint task force from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and law enforcement agencies, is currently conducting inspections in Selenge province, with findings expected to be presented to the Deputy Prime Minister this week. The damage stems from mining exploration and exploitation, road construction, building projects, and unlawful mining operations. The government aims to restore the affected areas by 2030, prioritizing regions with a high concentration of mining licenses. Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ts. Sandag-Ochir, emphasized the importance of accelerating legal and regulatory efforts to support the reclamation process.
