Mongolia and France have signed a €23.9 million deal to modernize air traffic control systems in Ulaanbaatar and establish a backup center in Sainshand. The project, financed through an export credit agreement, aims to upgrade Ulaanbaatar’s air traffic control center to meet international standards. A secondary control center will be constructed in Sainshand to ensure operational redundancy, strategically located in a different tectonic zone to mitigate risks. The collaboration extends to training personnel, technology transfer, and financial support from French investors. Transportation Minister B.Delgersaikhan highlighted the importance of the upgrade for flight safety, increased air traffic, and revenue generation. The backup center in Sainshand is a first for Mongolia, aligning with international safety regulations. Mongolia is also considering purchasing 10 aircraft from Airbus as part of broader aviation development plans.
