Mongolia is experiencing a surge in drowning incidents, with 84 cases reported this year—a 22% increase compared to the same period last year. These incidents have resulted in 50 deaths, including 19 children, marking a 12% rise in fatalities. Over the past five years, 464 people have drowned nationwide, with swimming, vehicle accidents, lack of child supervision, and alcohol consumption being major contributing factors. Regions with the highest drowning rates include the capital city and the provinces of Selenge, Khuvsgul, Uvs, Dornod, and Bayan-Ulgii. Authorities have identified 399 high-risk areas and launched preventative patrols since June 15th, involving around 250 personnel from various organizations to raise awareness and enhance safety measures near waterways.
