This article discusses the history of relations between Mongolia and Germany, tracing it back to the 1920s with initial scientific and cultural exchanges. Formal diplomatic relations between the Mongolian People’s Republic and the German Democratic Republic (GDR) were established in 1950, expanding into education, science, and trade. The reunification of Germany in 1990 marked a new phase in Mongolia-Germany relations. However, strong connections existed even before formal ties, as highlighted by Germany’s Foreign Office. The relationship has broadened since Mongolia’s transition to a democratic and market-based economy in the 1990s, encompassing political, economic, educational, scientific, and environmental collaboration. Germany became a key partner in Mongolia's political and economic reforms, particularly in vocational training and institutional capacity building. Development cooperation began in 1991-1992, signifying ongoing commitment to mutual growth.
