A moderate earthquake struck eastern Japan at approximately 7:46 PM local time on November 16th. The strongest shaking, registering as a 5-Weak on the Japanese seismic scale, was felt in southern Gunma Prefecture and northern Saitama Prefecture. Shaking of intensity 4 was recorded in parts of Ibaraki, Tochigi, and southern/western Saitama Prefectures. Several other prefectures, including Tochigi, Gunma, Chiba, Tokyo, and Kanagawa, experienced a 3 or higher on the scale. Authorities have stated there is no threat of a tsunami.
