Forty-four migrants were rescued off the coast of Gavdos, a small Greek island south of Crete, after being located by the Frontex border agency. The individuals were traveling in a small boat when they were spotted and subsequently assisted. A passing commercial vessel safely collected all those on board. They are now being transported to Paleochora, Chania, on the island of Crete. The operation ensured the well-being of all individuals involved, preventing potential loss of life at sea. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the migrants’ nationalities or intended destination. This rescue highlights the ongoing challenges of migration in the Mediterranean Sea.
