Turkey’s Kandilli Observatory registered 117 minor earthquakes south of Istanbul’s Princes’ Islands within a 55-hour period, from August 18th to August 20th. These tremors, occurring within a 20-kilometer radius, registered magnitudes between 0.7 and 3.1 on the Richter scale. While relatively small, the concentrated cluster of seismic events has prompted observation from the institute. Authorities have not issued any warnings suggesting a larger earthquake is imminent. This series of microearthquakes adds to the region's complex seismic landscape, as Turkey is located in an active earthquake zone. The observatory continues to monitor the area for further activity and potential changes in seismic patterns. The occurrences underscore the ongoing, subtle shifts within the Earth’s crust in the region.
