Metropolitan Ilarion, previously detained in the Czech Republic on suspicion of drug trafficking, will remain in Russia instead of being assigned to Brazil. This decision was made by Patriarch Kirill, according to the state news agency TASS, citing the Russian Orthodox Church. Ilarion had returned to Russia earlier this year following his detention in the Czech Republic involving cocaine. The reassignment shift is due to Ilarion’s need to care for his elderly mother. He will now work within the Moscow region of Russia, fulfilling his religious duties closer to home. This development concludes speculation about his future posting following the legal issues abroad.
