The Port of Maputo has increased its operational capacity with the inauguration of Slab 9A, a new bulk mineral storage facility at the Solid Bulk Terminal. The $9.9 million investment is expected to handle over one million tons annually, boosting the port’s competitiveness in the region and meeting growing demand. The project is also projected to create 51 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to Mozambique’s economic growth. During a visit, Transport and Logistics Minister João Matlombe also inspected the $164 million DP World Maputo container terminal expansion, currently 45% complete and slated for operation in early 2027, which will increase annual capacity from 225,000 to 530,000 TEUs. Matlombe emphasized the importance of integrated logistics and improvements to rail transport, border efficiency at Ressano Garcia, and overall system integration to maximize the benefits of port investments. He stressed that the competitiveness of the Maputo Corridor, and ultimately the national economy, relies on a cohesive transport chain.
