A 56-year-old man has been sentenced to 15.5 years in prison for the 1996 killing of Mike Duif in Amersfoort, Netherlands. The victim, 26, was forced to kneel before being shot multiple times in the head, a crime the court described as a “cold-blooded execution.” The case remained unsolved for decades until an anonymous tip in 2020 led investigators to Dave L., who had been a suspect previously due to a known motive. L. confessed to the shooting during conversations with undercover officers, providing details only the perpetrator would know. The motive stemmed from a dispute over money earned from dealing in stolen computer parts, with the suspect believing he was owed a share and needing funds to pay a debt collector. While the court deemed the killing a deliberate act, it stopped short of a murder conviction, instead finding L. guilty of manslaughter linked to theft. Thirteen thousand guilders were missing from the victim’s possession after his death.
