Dutch prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence, with eight months suspended, for a 26-year-old man accused of setting a police car on fire during riots in The Hague last September. The unrest followed an anti-immigration demonstration on the Malieveld. The man was identified through tips received after police released photos in a televised appeal. He is also accused of throwing a flare at police on the A12 highway and damaging property during a separate altercation. Prosecutors allege he ignited a flare and threw it into the already vandalized police vehicle, an image widely circulated in international media coverage of the riots. The prosecution is also seeking €34,000 in damages to be paid jointly with others involved. The events, described by the prosecutor as an "orgie of violence," resulted in injuries to police officers and journalists, as well as significant property damage across the city.
