Malian artist Fatoumata Diawara has released her new album, ‘Massa’ (meaning ‘The Eternal’), a collaboration with Matthieu Chedid, who previously contributed to her 2018 album ‘Fenfo’ and the ‘Lamomali’ project. The album features twelve songs blending blues and folk influences, notably without traditional Malian instrumentation. Lyrics, sung in Bambara, address significant social themes including migration, the challenges faced by children with disabilities, and the experiences of women dealing with infidelity. ‘Massa’ represents a continuation of Diawara’s artistic exploration of societal issues through music. This project marks another chapter in the established creative partnership between Diawara and Chedid. The album aims to offer a musical reflection on universal human experiences and concerns.
