Political opposition members in Mali are being systematically abducted by state security forces, a trend that began roughly six weeks ago. Recent detentions include lawyer Mountaga Tall, activist Moussa “Abba” Djiré, and Youssouf Daba Diawara, an associate of exiled opposition leader Mahmoud Dicko. Other political, military, and religious figures have also been targeted in similar nighttime raids by armed and masked security personnel. The detainees are being held in undisclosed locations without due process. Ismaël Sacko, an exiled opposition leader, has condemned the actions as a deliberate “strategy of terror” employed by the transitional authorities. All political parties in Mali have been dissolved, including Sacko’s PSDA. These events raise concerns about the escalating repression of dissent within the country.
