Thirteen of the twenty-nine issues debated under the official negotiation platform for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) have been fully resolved, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapha Sakmud. The MA63 agreement, signed in 1963, established the formation of Malaysia with specific rights and safeguards for Sabah and Sarawak. Five additional matters are currently under interim resolution, signaling ongoing progress in addressing long-standing concerns from the Borneo states. The remaining eleven issues are still under discussion. These negotiations aim to clarify and implement provisions related to state rights, financial arrangements, and other key areas outlined in the original agreement. Sakmud’s statement indicates a positive step towards fulfilling commitments made to Sabah and Sarawak, potentially fostering greater political stability and equitable resource distribution. The resolution of these issues is expected to address grievances and strengthen ties between the federal government and the two states.
