The town of Malacky, Slovakia is experimenting with a Dutch approach to urban planning focused on cycling. Despite being quiet at midday near the end of summer vacation, the streets of Malacky still see vehicle traffic alongside cyclists utilizing dedicated cycle paths. These cycle routes, exceeding 11 kilometers in total, connect residential areas to key destinations within the 19,000-person town. Routes lead to the town center, the railway station, schools, and both commercial and industrial zones. The initiative aims to improve accessibility and promote cycling as a viable mode of transport for residents of Malacky. The city appears to be actively reshaping its cycling map to prioritize these routes.
