The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) in Portugal is absorbing an expense of €3.1 billion, a 13% increase compared to the previous year. This rise is largely attributed to a strategic prioritization of improving the working conditions of the country’s security forces. A significant portion of the increased expenditure, amounting to €364 million, is specifically allocated to salaries within the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR). The MAI considers enhancing conditions for these forces a “strategic priority.” This funding boost signals a commitment to bolstering security personnel resources. The increase reflects a larger governmental focus on public safety measures within Portugal. This commitment aims to strengthen law enforcement capabilities across the nation.
