Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the sale of loose edible oil across the state, citing concerns over adulteration and public health. Tukaram Mundhe, the FDA Commissioner, announced the prohibition, warning vendors that violations will result in imprisonment of up to seven years. The ban aims to ensure the quality and purity of edible oils available to consumers. Currently, oil is often sold unpackaged from large containers, making it difficult to trace its origin and assess its quality. This move aligns with national standards for packaged food products, increasing consumer confidence. The FDA intends to enforce the ban rigorously, conducting inspections and taking stringent action against those found in non-compliance, protecting citizens from potentially harmful products.
