A Senate Committee on Education has lauded the Machakos County Government’s Youth Service Program for its positive impact on local youth. The Committee, led by Nominated Senator Betty Montet and Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, expressed strong approval of the initiative. However, the Committee simultaneously voiced significant concerns regarding the declining condition of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) within Machakos County. These concerns indicate a need for increased investment and attention towards foundational educational infrastructure. The committee’s visit to Machakos highlighted a mixed picture of progress and challenge in the county’s education sector. Further investigation and action are expected to address the issues raised concerning ECDE and VTC facilities. Laikipia Senator accompanied the committee during the assessment.
